Holes 4 Heroes 2025 started with snow and fog and ended mostly cloudy with a few inches of new snow on the ice.
Founded in 2004, Fishing for Life serves youth, families, veterans & communities through fishing and outdoor programs. Holes 4 Heroes is an annual ice fishing tournament that especially serves US military families and raises money for operations. This is the coolest event in the country. I handle the technology and video streaming.

Holes 4 Heroes 2025 livestream

Apologies for the garbled audio in the first several minutes. I spent lots of money for a nice mic that was supposed to pick up audio better than the raw phone. I’ll work on solving that problem for next year.
- 3:00 – invocation with Pastor Vaughn Blackburn.
- 6:29 – Color guard.
- 7:30 – National Anthem by Mike “Dutch” Johnson.
- 9:40 – Opening comments and Pledge of Allegiance by Tom Goodrich.
- 11:25 – Swearing-in ceremony for new recruits.
- 21:30 – Don Rice told me about the distorted audio. I removed the bad mic to use raw phone audio.
- 28:20 – Quick chat with Brad Carlson and Mitch Berg and the staff at AM1280 The Patriot, getting read to broadcast from the ice.
- 37:49 – Interview with Tina Edwards with Polaris.
- 1:03:20 – “21 Kid Salute” countdown to the official tournament start.
- 1:09:33 – Mike Kurre interviewed new recruit, 28-year-old David Hythen. (I probably butchered David’s last name.)
- 1:14:30 – Mike Kurre interviewed Staff Sergeant Douglas Piesner. I probably also butchered that spelling.
- 1:17:00 – First minnow race.
- 1:26:40 – Why anglers must immediately release Pike between 22 and 26 inches.
- 1:39:00 – Mike Kurre interviewed me. I need to work on my video selfies. Nobody correctly answered my technology question.
- 1:42:50 – the most unique hat wins an autographed copy of one of my books from me.
- 1:45:30 – Tom Goodrich’s dog’s name is Sarge.
- 1:48:00 – How to find the Nextera microwave tower.
- 1:9:55 – MIke Kurre interviewed Tackle Terry Tuma.
- 2:00:00 – Chris won a copy of “VIrus Bomb” for the most unique hat. We grabbed one from my car.
- 2:09:49 – The sun broke through the clouds.
- 2:10:10 – Radio interview with Stan Chickenov (I probably butchered the spelling) on AM1280 The Patriot on the ice.
- 2:11:10 – “I was not well received when I returned from Vietnam. I was actually spit on at the bus depot in Minneapolis.”
- 2:32:35 – Setup for the famous Crappie Flop.
- 2:34:40 – Crappie Flop demo.
- 2:45:50 – Minnow race.
- 2:46:05 – Tom Goodrich radio interview on AM1280 The Patriot.
- 3:30:50 – Technology tour.
- 3:40:15 – Tina Edwards with Polaris relieved me for a bio break. She interviewed the 30 quart cooler winner. And other content. Thanks Tina! I owe you one.
- 4:00:50 – Final minnow race.
- 4:02:50 – Final countdown to the end of the tournament.
- 4:05:40 – Acknowledge sponsors, raffles, prizes.
- 4:10:00 – Stan Chickenov won a prize for being the oldest veteran here. Small consolation for how we treated him when he came home from Vietnam in an earlier era. See Stan’s radio interview, above.
- 4:36:36 – Teardown time and that’s a wrap on Holes 4 Heroes 2025.
