Image captured from the bizarre Nov. 19, 2020 press conference where the Trump legal dream team told us about Venezuelan voting machines.

An old joke goes reminds me of Sidney Powell’s Venezuelan voting machine voodoo tale. It goes something like this.

“Did’dja know George Washington was a spy?”
“No.”
“See how good he was?”

ba-dum-bump.

On Nov. 19, 2020, Jenna Ellis, Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell spun a story about how the Democrats, in cahoots with Venezuelan bad guys and the left-wing mainstream media, stole the election from Trump. Here is more on what the Trump team wants to do about it.

The voting machine narrative goes something like this.

In 2006 or so, Venezuelan dictator, Hugo Chavez wanted a voting machine where his crew could change votes in such a way that it would be undetectable. Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic software took care of it for him. Today, a web of people with ties to Chavez and high-level Democrats own this shadowy organization, and they conspired to use the same software to suppress the will of the American people. Trump really won by a landslide, but overseas vote-counting and Venezuelan software with more back doors than a government-sponsored encryption algorithm stole the election for Biden.

If only any election commissioner from any state had looked online, they would have seen this whole scheme, they told us. But instead, the Venezuelans pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes, and that’s why the 2020 election turned out the way it did.

Let’s Check Facts

I took Powell and Giuliani up on their challenge and looked online. It seems Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic are competitors. Twenty-eight states use Dominion voting machines, and only Los Angeles County in California uses Smartmatic software. Here is another article about Smartmatic from earlier in 2020. These companies must be really good to steal elections in states that don’t use their equipment or software. Perhaps the real conspiracy goes even deeper.

Here is what Smartmatic had to say on all this. Here is more from Smartmatic.

Here’s an AP story about Dominion and Smartmatic. Here is a Reuters fact-check. Since Trump’s team will call anyone who disputes what they say a left-wing fake news organization, you can fact-check the fact-checks for yourself.

Finally, a Youtube video of the Nov. 19 press conference where Giuilini and Powell laid this all out. This was the one where Giuilini’s hair die ran down the side of his face. Jenna Ellis said it’s just an opening statement, with hard evidence to come later in court.

Sound Familiar?

This is right out of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf.

All this was inspired by the principle—which is quite true within itself—that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.

I like the way George Carlin’s character, Bif Barf put it better.

“We call ’em as we see ’em, and if we don’t see ’em, we make it up.”

Grab some popcorn. This should be good.
